Over many years living in the area, an intense interest in their district has developed in both the Dennis',leading to ongoing research and resulting songs,culminating in this workshop. The workshop focuses on the importance of the maritime trade and transport to the coast and hinterland. From pre colonization to the making of the actual coastal road after WW1. Includes a multi media dislplay to complete the show.

The Amorous Muse - An exploration of how amorous encounters are dealt with in folk song: Both rural and urban, contrasting the humour and gentleness generally shown in the rural setting as opposed to the sometimes more coarse (and supposedly more sophisticated) treatment given to the subject by town dwelling songsmiths. The songs are bursting with allegory and imagery, and are leavened with more than a little humour.

Famine to Feast - Vince Brophy, Cora Browne, Sally Carter, Margie Brophy.
The story of girls of the Thomas Arbuthnot, brought to Australia in 1850 under the Earl Grey orphan girls scheme, away from the famine in Ireland.
Unlike the convicts this was not a journey of despair, but a journey of hope.
The orphan girls went on to become mothers and Grandmothers of generations of Australians. Bring along your instruments and become a part of the concert session.
