The Writer's Circle 2023 - George Town Yacht Club

Featuring Martin Flanagan Author of 20 books, in converstion with Tony Newport, Author, Singer Songwriter.

Martin and Tony both grew up on the West Coast of Tasmania and attended the same College ( and survived). This is sure to be a fascinating chat .

Michael Kay Presents Persian and Middle Eastern Instruments - Bass and Flinders Museum

Over the last 6 years, Michael has been fascinated by Persian and middle eastern instruments particularly the Kamancha, Oud, Tar and Setar, performing at concerts to support the Hazara community in Launceston.
Michael will give a workshop demonstrating these instruments and talk about some of the differences between middle eastern and western music.

No jigs will be performed during this workshop.

$15 at door if not a Weekend ticket holder

Hetty Binns - George Town Yacht Club

Joan Baez and Bob Dylan were a big part of Hetty’s repertoire through the years, and in 2023 Hetty is looking forward to presenting a themed concert “Diamonds and Rust – Joan Baez and Bob Dylan” which will look into the on-off relationship between these two iconic artists, and the influence it had on them and their music.

Stan Gottschalk - A Banjo workshop for real beginners - Bass and Flinders Museum

Stan will show attendees how to play in the basic 2-finger Appalachian banjo style called, variously, "frailing" or "clawhammer", using a simple folk tune as an example. Bring your own banjo.

The Festival Choir with Suzette Herft - The Rotunda

Each year we put out the call for singers and we always have a wonderful Choir.

Suzette will teach us a new song and some favourites. Word sheets supplied.

The Choir is invited on stage on Sunday at the final performance.

A free event , but you will need a ticket for the Final Concert.

ANGE sings Joni - A Tribute Concert by Ange Boxall - Memorial Hall

Ange Boxall is a highly acclaimed Singer Songwriter , living on Tasmania'a East Coast. Ange is The Director of Echo Festival. We are delighted to welcome Ange as she presents her beautiful show on Joni.

Joni Mitchell has long left an imprint on the lives of countless admirers.

2021 marked the 50th Anniversary of Joni’s seminal album, ‘Blue’, a coming-of-age travelogue. It’s is an album that has been a trusted and wise companion to many devoted fans over the years, and for those still discovering her genius.
Tasmanian songstress Ange Boxall, accompanied by pianist Tony Fox
will bring this dynamic show to Tamar Valley Folk Festival Jan 28th .
From A Case of You, to Both Sides Now, to Big Yellow Taxi, this is a show to be loved in itself and remembered.

This original show is based on a decade of letters sent to the Editor of the Examiner by regular festival performer and singer/songwriter Tony Newport. With bass singer Steve Trimen and shantyman Craig Dixon performing alongside. Irreverent, poignant but never preachy. Not to be missed.

Joy will bring a few ukes for those who would like to try out this great little instrument. Bring your own ukulele and join in the fun.
